"This was written at a cottage in the English countryside in winter where we had gone on a writing retreat to escape the noise of London," the Staves' Jessica and Camilla Staveley say of their new song, "Sitting By the Fire," out today. "On a cigarette break, Jessica went outside in the dark and could see Camilla through the window, sat at the fireplace writing a song. The song is a photograph of sorts, capturing that moment. We recorded this after we had cut the record [All Now] out in LA. We were back in London and revisited this tune and we felt that it would really be perfect to have [our sister] Emily join us on it to lend her voice to this a cappella recording."

The Staves' new EP Happy New Year, out today, includes three acoustic versions of tracks from their new album, All Now—"I Don't Say It, But I Feel It," "After School," and "All Now"—and a cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home." Also out now: an acoustic performance video for "After School," which the duo calls "a love song to our sister Emily inspired by the bands we were listening to in the '90s. Putting on the rose-tinted glasses and embracing nostalgia."

The Staves have released an acoustic cover of The Beatles' "She's Leaving Home" ahead of their return to the US to tour in November. "This song is one we’ve known forever and have loved, partly because of its vivid storytelling but also the incredible string arrangement," the Staves' Jessica and Camilla Staveley say. "We realized that there are actually no harmonies on this song, only the two voices of Lennon and McCartney singing—it felt like a sign." You can watch the video here.

The Staves have shared a new song, "A Weird One." This follows last month's release of the song "Waiting for the Joy" and the announcement of a US acoustic tour for this fall, celebrating their spring 2024 album, All Now. "A rolling list of thoughts on one particular day; from the mundane to the existential," the Staves' Jessica and Camilla Staveley say of the new song. "A to-do list but with the underlying hum of grief and anxiety towards what the year ahead might bring." The band recorded the track during the All Now sessions with producer John Congleton.

The Staves have released a new song, "Waiting for the Joy," and have announced a US acoustic tour for this fall, celebrating their spring 2024 album, All Now. Dates begin November 6 in Philadelphia and continue into Thanksgiving week, with stops in Brooklyn, Nashville, Austin, and more. "The song began in the throes of the first lockdown when the feeling of isolation was so prominent," the Staves' Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor say of the new song, which was recorded during the All Now sessions with producer John Congleton. "Everyone seemed so inspired, and we were worried that we weren't inspired by music in general anymore."

The Staves have released a new video podcast episode in which band mates and sisters Jessica and Camilla Stavely-Taylor chat about all things All Now, their new album. "I think wanting things to be really good can make you very afraid to try, because you're worried about failing, about falling short of that, which is such a trap—it keeps you kind of frozen," Camilla says. "Ultimately it doesn't matter, you have to just do things, keep those muscles moving, making things and being imperfect and imperfections are what life is about. That's human." You can watch their conversation here.

"The Staves' songs are sweet and melancholic, often belying the depth of emotion and subtleness of their lyrics," says Monocle on Culture host Robert Bound. "Their music manages to be both gentle and punchy, driven home by their perfect, perfect harmonies." The duo is on the podcast to discuss their new album, All Now, which Bound describes as "sonically rich, full of moments of euphoria," and perform live on the show. You can hear it here. Atwood Magazine's Mitch Mosk calls All Now "the strongest releases of the band’s career ... utterly enchanting—a catchy, cohesive, and many-sided listening experience with endless returns."
